By | November 9, 2020

HFMA is pleased to bring you the Board and Committee Member Spotlight. Below is an interview with one of our board members, Joanna Kroon, discussing her history and future with HFMA. Keep an eye out for more interviews coming regularly.

What was your first job and how did you end up with it? Or what was your most career impacting job and how did you end up with it?

    • [jk] My first job out of college was with Deloitte – this also had the biggest impact on my career, as over 22 years later I’m still working here! I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some fantastic colleagues and enjoy how I’m always learning something new.

How has your time as an HFMA member benefitted you?

    • [jk] HFMA has provided a number of benefits, from attending educational sessions, building my network, and expanding my presence in the marketplace.

What led you to become an HFMA Board Member?

    • [jk] A number of years ago I was looking for a way to become more involved in HFMA, so volunteered to join a committee. Over time, that led into serving a term as the committee chair, which I really enjoyed. After that, I was invited to join the board and was thrilled to accept the opportunity!

What are you most looking forward to in your role as Board Member?

    • [jk] Becoming more involved and getting to know others within HFMA.

What is your favorite HFMA event to be involved with?

    • [jk] Absolutely the Accounting and Regulatory Technical Update!

What was your first HFMA event?

    • [jk] My first event was the annual wine dinner – I still have the wine glasses! I remember attending my first few events with a very senior partner that I worked closely with, and being amazed at how many people he knew, while I didn’t know anyone. Now, I really look forward to connecting with all the “regulars” at various HFMA events and catching up.

What do you like to do when you are not working?

    • [jk] Spend time with my husband and two daughters (13 & 11), especially outdoors hiking and doing Spartan races. Now that it’s getting colder, I’m more likely to be found curled up on the couch with a good book!

Who do you admire the most? Can be fictional character, celebrity, scholar!

    • [jk] The person I admire most is my mom – she has always been an inspiration to me, working full-time while raising a family of four. Her words of wisdom often help me get through the day!
