Incoming President’s Message

By | June 1, 2023

“It’s Time…To Reflect, To Celebrate, To Onboard, To Act.”  This was the message expressed to HFMA Officers, Board Members and volunteers at the April 2023 HFMA Leadership Training Conference in San Antonio, TX.  These words personally resonate with me, as I prepare for my year as Chapter President, beginning June 1st.

As I reflect on my new role, I first would like to thank our MA-RI members, 1,300 strong.  These include both individual members and our growing enterprise membership.  This organization would be nothing without you!   I’d also like to thank our Corporate Sponsors, who have supported our Chapter over the years.

I want to celebrate our talented volunteers as I begin my year as President.  To those who volunteer please know that I appreciate you and your willingness to dedicate time and energy to our organization, events, and fellow members.  I am truly excited to work with you all.

This year the MA-RI Chapter is introducing a new “Educational Partnership” opportunity, whereby the Chapter will outreach to our local colleges and universities to foster relationships and introduce students to our organization.  Opportunities for students include volunteering / networking at events, writing blog articles, and participating in MA-RI educational webinars.  The students will be sure to appreciate the value that HFMA has to offer through their experiences.

Please join me at any (or all!) of the educational and social events held by our Chapter.  A perennial favorite, the New to Healthcare Seminar held at Partners Healthcare in Assembly Row, onboards recent grads and those new to the healthcare industry by providing education on a variety of topics, as well as fun networking opportunities.  Educational topics covered in the day-long seminar (on October 13th) include: healthcare finance and reporting; compliance and regulations; managed care; and revenue cycle management.   Additionally, I look forward to the joint conference with NEHIA (New England Healthcare Internal Auditors, Inc.) in Mystic, CT this November and December; over the past three years we’ve forged a valuable partnership with NEHIA.  Our keystone educational event, the Revenue Cycle Conference at Gillette Stadium, will be held in January of 2024.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed the buzz of Patriots playoff games will be in the air!

I especially look forward to celebrating at the MA-RI Chapter’s networking events including the Annual Golf Outing at Granite Links (August 7th), a winter gathering (TBD), and the Annual Awards Wine Dinner in the Spring of 2024.  Act now, and join us for fun events and camaraderie with your colleagues!

In closing, Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “It is not fair to ask of others what you are not willing to do yourself.”  I want my fellow volunteers to know that I will be beside them with unyielding support.  Thank you, and I’m looking forward to a wonderful year ahead!
