Meet New 2022 HFMA MA-RI Chapter Compliance Committee Members

By | March 17, 2022

The Compliance Committee focuses on all aspects of corporate compliance & privacy activities required of healthcare organizations. The Committee is charged with exploring compliance program best practices and coordinating regional, annual joint compliance and internal audit conference in December 2022 with the New England Healthcare Internal Auditors (NEHIA). The Committee is also responsible for organizing promotional content for the annual education session, including blog posts prior to and following the session, recruiting writers to prepare 2-3 additional blog posts for the chapter’s blog and general advancement activities aimed at enhancing and growing the chapter’s membership.

This year’s Compliance Committee is comprised of six industry leaders:

  • Chairs / Board Liaisons: Dhara Satija and Donna Schneider
  • Members: Roma Desai, Olga Gross-Balzano, Audra Hulme, and Anjali Mulchandani-West

Meet the Committee!

Roma Desai
Chief of Staff for Chief Compliance Office,  CVS Health

Why compliance matters to you? Compliance matters to me as I believe in always doing the right thing and assisting others along the way. Adhering to compliance with laws, regulations, ethical behaviors, etc. is vital to an organization and I am excited to be a part of the process.

Olga Gross-Balzano
Senior Manager, Healthcare Group, BerryDunn

Why compliance matters to you? – It is very exciting for me to be able to help organizations and individuals to conduct their business in effective and ethical manner, by sharing knowledge and resources, and research effective solutions for upcoming challenges. It is equally important for healthcare entities to earn revenues and keep the money to invest in people and programs. Compliance work allows me to contribute to healthcare waste reduction and to peace of mind for those who are in healthcare.

Audra Hulme
Director, PwC

Why compliance matters to you? Building trust and establishing an ethical foundation for any organization is imperative; compliance helps to provide that backbone. From my internal audit lens, I love working with compliance leaders to ensure compliance matters are addressed and to ultimately mitigate risk.

Anjali Mulchandani-West
Chief Compliance Officer, Southcoast Health

Why compliance matters to you? – I am a firm believer of doing what is right for the individual and the organization.  Acting ethically and in compliance with laws can enable an organization to meet its strategic objectives and can also be a competitive advantage.  I use my compliance knowledge and my values to help Southcoast be leader in its community.

Dhara Satija
Director of Healthcare Consulting in the Life Sciences Consulting Group of Paul Hastings

Why compliance matters to you? Compliance is a strategic enabler and guided by integrity, collaboration, and commitment to the organization and its customers. I have the opportunity to collaborate with healthcare organizations and compliance professionals to not only manage reactive needs, but also to proactively enhance and effectively manage their compliance risk management program.

Donna Schneider
Compliance Committee Co-Chair
Vice President, Corporate Compliance & Internal Audit, Lifespan Health System

Why compliance matters to you? Compliance assists patients and our workforce, and therefore makes a difference in healthcare for the people we serve.  The work we do matters, and, in my opinion, Compliance works to support workforce members in many ways including finding answers to questions, and navigating regulatory, auditing, privacy and conflict of interest issues.

The Committee meets approximately 10-12 times a year, either in-person or by telephone. During these meetings, the Committee discusses current events and hot topics and prepares for the educational session, all while benefitting from shared knowledge and learning from across the industry. Since the start of COVID in 2020, the committee collaborated to think outside the box to host various educational programs for our members.

Please contact me (Dhara Satija @ dharasatija@paulhastings.com) and/or our HFMA Admin team at admin@ma-ri-hfma.org. We are always looking for volunteers so please reach out anytime of the year. We welcome your interest, feedback and support.
