HFMA Virtual Roundtable – Speaker Q&A – for Kyle Faget, Special Counsel Attorney, Foley & Lardner LLP

  1. Tell us about your compliance career journey – I jumped into the compliance world headfirst when I joined the government enforcement group at Ropes & Gray as a young associate. I worked on alleged violations of the anti-kickback statute along with off-label promotion cases. I transitioned to Boston Scientific where I served as a compliance officer for the company’s clinical trial function while the organization operated under a corporate integrity agreement for alleged sham clinical trials.  I continued my in-house compliance journey by becoming a compliance officer for Sanofi-Genzyme. There, I operationalized a deferred prosecution agreement. Since returning to private practice, I advise pharmaceutical, medical device, healthcare systems, and physician practices regarding compliance issues, including assisting clients put in place effective compliance programs.
  2. What are your tips on staying informed & effectively disseminating news, given the ever-changing health care landscape? There are so many sources of information out there that I think it can be hard to narrow in on what’s valuable and what’s not so valuable. Spending time identifying good publications is key to staying informed about changes and educated about what such changes me.
  3. What does the future of health care compliance look like for you? Very busy. I anticipate that there will be extensive enforcement actions under the current administration.
  4. If somebody googled you, what would they not find out about you? I am an avid sports card collector, which is a passion I share with my twin 8 year old boys.
