By | January 6, 2021

HFMA is pleased to bring you a recurring feature on the blog, the Board and Committee Member Spotlight. Below is an interview with one of our board members, Dhara Satija, discussing her history and future with HFMA. Keep an eye out for more interviews coming regularly.

What was your first job and how did you end up with it?

    • [ds] My first job out of college was with Huron Consulting Group. I was there for 3 years before I moved to Deloitte, where I have been for 9+ years. I truly enjoy my consulting career… thanks to my great colleagues, clients, and countless diverse opportunities.

How has your time as an HFMA member benefitted you?

    • [ds] HFMA has been a great platform for me to learn, network, and expand my presence in the New England healthcare community.

What led you to become an HFMA Board Member?

    • [ds] As part of my consulting career, I travelled a lot throughout the country. About 4 years ago I made the conscious decision to be more local. I wanted to look for ways to get more involved in the New England healthcare community. My mentor at Deloitte specifically recommended HFMA and introduced me to the local chapter. I started volunteering and transitioned to be a member and co-chair of the Compliance Committee. Soon after, I was invited to join the Board and I am very thankful for this opportunity and experience.

What are you most looking forward to in your role as Board Member?

    • [ds] Networking and collaborating on bringing diverse educational events to our members and healthcare community.

What is your favorite HFMA event to be involved with?

    • [ds] Annual Compliance Conference… especially this year as we collaborated with another local industry organization, NEHIA to host our first-ever virtual compliance and internal audit conference with 140 attendees and 18 speakers.

What was your first HFMA event?

    • [ds] My first HFMA event was the 2015 Compliance conference in Westborough and that also happened to be my first volunteer opportunity with the Compliance Committee.

What was the most important take away/most impressionable memory you have of your early days in HFMA?

    • [ds] I remember the diverse group of professionals I met and continue to meet, along with access to great resources / educational opportunities.

What do you like to do when you are not working?

    • [ds] I like to spend time with family, listen to music, and plan fun gatherings with friends and family. Our recent routine activity has been watching planes take off and land at scenic spots around Logan Airport as both my boys absolutely love it and enjoy pretending to be pilots!

Who do you admire the most?

    • [ds] My husband, Gaurang, has been my pillar of strength and he constantly reminds me to change the impossible to the possible, and my two boys, Gyan (4.5) and Vyan (2.5), who are a continual reminder of essential things in life – laughter, love, and curiosity. I love seeing the world through my kids’ eyes, as it gives me a fresh perspective, and encourages me to be innovative in my ways of thinking. This year more than any other has shown me the importance of being surrounded by love, hope, and courage.
