HFMA is pleased to bring you a recurring feature on the blog, the Board and Committee Member Spotlight. Below is an interview with one of our board members, Donna Schneider, discussing her history and future with HFMA. Keep an eye out for more interviews coming regularly.
What was your first job and how did you end up with it?
-
- [ds] My first job was as a Registered Nurse on a cardiac step-down unit at a large inner-city hospital. This was one of the units I did my clinical rotation on during my senior year of Nursing School at the University of Connecticut. I was so happy with this position since it rotated days and evenings and had very few night shifts.

How has your time as an HFMA member benefitted you?
-
- [ds] I have had the privilege of working closely on the Compliance initiatives which are my passion. I have also met so many knowledgeable professionals working in other roles of the Revenue Cycle which has broadened my horizons. This has been a great eye-opener for my personal Compliance, Privacy and Internal Audit roles.
What led you to become an HFMA Board Member?
-
- [ds] I wanted to be able to lend my expertise and share my network on a broader scale, so I was honored and delighted to serve in this role. I also think that my path as a Nurse, who worked then in Managed Care after obtaining a business degree, then working in managed care quality, managed care contracting, compliance, privacy, internal audit and quality analytics is a lot of varied experience to share with others.
What are you most looking forward to in your role as Board Member?
-
- [ds] I am most looking forward to continued networking and sharing of information with a wide group of welcoming professionals.
What was your first HFMA event?
-
- [ds] My first HFMA event was the Compliance Conference held in Boston and I was so impressed with the quality of the speakers and also the excellent networking opportunities.
What was the most important take away/most impressionable memory you have of your early days in HFMA?
-
- [ds] I remember being impressed by the vast amount of resources and the friendliness of everyone I met in the organization.
What do you like to do when you are not working?
-
- [ds] I am an avid runner, and I run at least 4 miles, if not more, every day. I have run 15 marathons over my career, with 4 of them qualifying for and running the Boston Marathon. My goal is to run a marathon in 2021 to requalify for Boston in 2022.
Who do you admire the most?
-
- [ds] I actually admire my 3 daughters the most. They are ages 28, and twins who are 25. I admire them because each of them has an even-keeled steadfast dedication to their respective careers (Physician Assistant; First-grade teacher and PhD Candidate for Biomedical Engineering). They are energetic and positive young women that I look to every day to share their “why” which I find contagious.
